How do I edit my profile?
Hover over the word "Profile" in the main navigation menu (it's just under the CV logo!) and you'll see a drop down menu. Click on Edit profile and the edit form will appear.
From here you can make changes to your profile. Don't forget to the "Save Profile" button to save all your changes!
Do I have to upload a photo?
Not at all! Just remember though, that uploading a photo of yourself, or your brand makes you more memorable. But it's entirely up to you. If you like the anonymity, no problem!
Why do you need to know my location?
Adding your location to your profile helps other CV members find you! For example, if a company is looking for a particular type of talent in your city - having your location properly filled out means your profile will show up in the search results.
I want to tell everyone about my Profile! What do I do?
Easy. Click on Profile > Promote Profile and we've got some tools there to get you started. All your social media share, tweet, +1, share buttons are available for your portfolio and resume. We even have a badge that you can create and add to your blog or website if you feel like editing some HTML!
Can I pay to get my profile featured?
At the moment, our featured profiles are special "gifts" for friends and early signups to the site. In the near future we hope to add some cool premium features including a "featured" profile.
How come I can't add my website url when editing my profile?
Sometimes we'll display this message, "This URL appears to be a broken link". This occurs when the site you have entered is restricting access to the public and is password protected.
Can't find my Account Creation verification email from CollabVillage
First check your spam filter, sometimes our email verification link will be delivered into your spam folder. Sometimes you may have entered an invalid email. Follow these steps: 1) Click Account Settings 2) Enter New Email 3) Click Resend Verification Email 4) Check your email inbox
What is a Portfolio Set?
Think of a set as a collection, or grouping of your work. You could group your work by time - for example all the work you've done in the last year. Or you could group it by the type of work you did - for example one set could be all your sound design work, another all your composition work. But really it's up to you! Group your work however you'd like :)
Do I have to split my work up into Video Sets, Audio Sets, etc?
No, definitely not! Although you could if you want. You can mix and match all the different types of media in each of your sets. Go nuts!
I made a mistake in my Set name, can I change it?
Yes, of course. Click on Profile > Edit Portfolio then click on the text of your Set Name. You'll notice that the name is replaced with a little form. Edit the text in there, and when you're done hit Enter or click out of the box, and your changes are saved!
Do I have to link my accounts to access my work on 3rd party sites?
No, but it does make things a bit easier on you. But, if you'd rather not link your accounts, no problem. Let's take YouTube as an example. Instead of linking your accounts - just click "Add New Work" and then under YouTube, click on "Search". Then you can search for your own YouTube username and we'll find all your YouTube videos.
What about my favorites/likes on a 3rd party site?
Unfortunately, we can't access your likes or favorites on other sites unless you link your accounts!
If I publish my set, then it's live to the world?
Youbetcha! So don't publish until you're ready to show what you got. Remember that once you publish, any other pieces of work that you add to that set will also be published. Don't fret though if you want to hide it, just click unpublish and we'll hide it for you again!
How about reordering the pieces of work in my set? Can I change the order of those too?
Yes you may. Again click Profile > Edit Portfolio. Then click on the "Re-order Work" button of the set you want to re-order. Once the little popup appears, just drag and drop the pieces and re-arrange them how you like. Click on Save and viola your portfolio set reappears in it's new and improved state.
I want to change the order of my sets! How do I do that?
Click on Profile > Edit Portfolio. When your edit page loads, just hover over the graphic to the left of the set name. See it? Yea that thing that looks like three stacked books. That means you can click it and drag it. Drag the set to where you want it in the grand scheme of your portfolio and we'll automatically save the new order. Easy right?
Can I edit the title and description of my portfolio pieces?
You sure can. Just open up the piece you'd like to edit. For example, click "Play Video" on a video that you want to edit. The video will show with the current title above it and the description below. Just click on the title or description and you'll see a little form appear. Type in the new title or description and click outside of the form and your changes are automatically saved.
If I remove a piece from a set, does that delete the video from YouTube/Vimeo?
Nope, we don't remove videos from your 3rd party accounts. We simply remove it from the set. You can easily add it back later on if you'd like
Deleting the set means it's gone forever?
Yup. So don't delete unless you're sure. You can always just "UnPublish" if you aren't sure you want to delete it. But, since none of your videos are deleted from the 3rd party sites, and since it's so easy to make a portfolio - you could always recreate your set easy peazy!
Why do you even have a resume section?
Haha, good question! We figured it's still cool and helpful to be able to show your info in a "traditional" resume/CV. Even though it's not our favorite way to display what you can do, it does have it's uses. But don't worry, if you use LinkedIn, we've made it really really easy for you to create your CollabVillage resume
So all I have to do is link my CollabVillage account with LinkedIn?
Yup, it really is that easy. Just link your account and we'll take care of the rest. We will grab all of your info and format it for your new CollabVillage resume. Then you can make as many changes as you want, it won't affect the resume that lives on LinkedIn at all.
So I can delete parts of my CollabVillage resume and I won't mess up my LinkedIn version?
That's exactly right! We grab all your info and store it on our servers so you can tailor it towards whatever industry you want on CollabVillage
Oops, I deleted a section of my CollabVillage resume that I had imported from LinkedIn
No problem. Click on the "Sync with LinkedIn" button and we'll re-import the parts of your resume that are missing. Remember this will only grab pieces of your LinkedIn resume that aren't on CollabVillage. This means if you made any edits on CollabVillage, it won't overwrite those - it will only bring in new ones or in this case ones that you deleted by accident.
Follower? Following? Connection? Huh?
It's okay, it's not that complicated, we swear. Followers are people following you. Following are people you are following. And Connections are people that you follow that have followed you back!
So what is this find connections page doing?
If you've authorized it, we look through all of your contacts from the 3rd party (YouTube/Gmail for example) and we try to match those contacts up with any people from your list that are already on CollabVillage. If we find anyone, we show them to you on this page so you can view their portfolio and/or follow them.
So if I want to tell someone to join, I just invite them?
Yea, click on Connections > Invite Connections and you can invite people by typing in their email addresses and a short message. Or if you're lazy like us, we can search your Gmail or Yahoo! contacts for you and then you can select which contacts you want to invite.
How do I post a job? How much does it cost?
Click on Jobs > Post A Job and follow the forms. Once you've filled out all the details of your job, we'll take you to a preview page where you can confirm that the job details are right. On that page we'll detail the costs of posting the job. It's $195 plus any applicable taxes. From there, we'll send you to PayPal to make the payment. Once payment is confirmed, your job will go live!
Do I need to have a PayPal account to post a job?
No. Having a Paypal account is not necessary, although it can make the payment process smoother. However, PayPal does have an option to make the payment without having an account.
Once I post a job, where can I view the applicants work?
Each time a new user submits an application to your job posting, CollabVillage will send you an email alerting you of the new application (unless you have disabled emails in settings). Also, you can view all applicants to your job posting by clicking the "View Applications" button on the job post page. Hint - if you don't have any applicants yet, this button will not appear.
Can applicants message me directly?
Applicants can only message you regarding a job application once you have initiated contact with them. To do so, click on the applicant within the job applicants window and click "Send Message". A form will appear that you can use to send the applicant a message.
