The technology and business world has lost an icon. Steve Jobs passed away earlier today at the age of 56. His accomplishments and influence on the world are known to all, but I feel a particular loss since his companies have been such a huge part of my career and those of my peers.

Steve Jobs was a visionary. He saw things that simply no one else did. He started Apple Computers at the age of 20 and went on to create the Macintosh - the worlds first personal computer. His accomplishments at Apple are astonishing to say the least. At age 30, he went on to start two new companies - NeXT and Pixar.

Of course, for the Entertainment industry Pixar was a game changer. The technology created by the Pixar team led to a brand new genre of flims and is the reason so many people are employed today. NeXT turned out to be a game changer as well - purchased by Apple, their technology went on to become the basis of what we now know as OSX. How many of you work on a Mac to write music, edit your films, program your games? I bet it's a pretty fair share...

Think Global

Start Thinking Globally!

On one of our favourite blogs, Deane Ogden today posted a short video speaking about his travels and recent success in finding work in Asia. In the video he talks about how he has recently started to think about broadening his horizons and "Think Globally" when trying to find work and clients.

We love that idea here at CollabVillage and it is part of what we are about - levelling the playing field so to speak - so that everyone has a voice and can showcase their talent. What easier way to start than to create a portfolio online that you can market across the globe?

Added New "Industry" Field to profiles!

Thanks to all the feedback we've received so far about the site! We're really happy to hear all the kind words. Hopefully you like what you see so far! Thanks for coming to the site and please spread the word :)

We got some great feedback about the profiles and as a result, we've added a new field called "Industry" to the user profiles. This allows you to let people know which industries you do work in and is separate from the "Specialties" field where you can give even more detail about what you can do!
